Customized Lockers Grow Your School Brand & Increase Student Morale

If you have memories of your school lockers, it’s probably because of the amount of times you forgot the combination, left something you needed in it over the weekend, or (worst case scenario) got stuffed into it by the hallway bully. But lockers are the one thing students look at face-to-face every day of the school year, so why not take advantage of them?

If you are looking to replace lockers at your school in the near future, view it as an opportunity to go beyond the standard hallway or gym locker and “grow your brand” and increase student morale at the same time. Recent consultations with school principals have found the following:

  1. Students want more space. A 12” wide locker gets really cramped when trying to squeeze bags and winter coats in. Switch to a 15” wide locker and find other spaces to put additional lockers needed.
  2. Students want more shelves. Most lockers just have one shelf on the top, but a recent survey done by one Iowa high school at Bellevue Marquette revealed that wasn’t enough. The school used their student input and customized their lockers to include an additional shelf at the bottom.
  3. Students love showcasing their school logos. Why not incorporate them into the doors of the lockers? Think of it as a one-time advertising investment that will be there for the next 50 years.
  4. Administrators are proud of their school taglines. A recent project at City High School in the Iowa City Community School District inscribed the school’s motto “The School That Leads” into 500 of their first-floor lockers. It’s now a daily, visual reminder to students and the community of the district’s mission every time they walk through the hallway and past their lockers.
