Metal ShopThe majority of Iowa Prison Industries’ detention furnishings are produced in the Metal Shop located at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. The Anamosa Metal Shop has been in operation since 1952.

The Metal Shop fills over 1,000 orders annually with approximately fifty-five inmate employees under the supervision of four IPI staff.

Products produced by the Metal Shop include school and library furniture, office furniture, jail furniture, parks and recreation products, chairs, tables and filing cabinets. Along with stock items, the Metal Shop receives daily requests for one-of-a-kind special items and can also customize most products to meet a customer’s specific needs.
