Private Sector Work Programs
Iowa Code 904-801-904.815. Under the guidance of the U.S. Department
of Justice, the State of Iowa is certified to provide inmates for
private business, providing the business meets state and federal
guidelines.
To be eligible for this program, offenders must be scheduled for
release within three years. Iowa inmates that work for private companies
surrender their paycheck to the state for payment of their obligations.
Inmates can keep no more than 20% of their wages. The balance goes
for payment of taxes, child support, restitution, victims’
compensation and room and board.
Private sector programs are available at Rockwell City, Fort Dodge,
Newton, Mitchellville, Mount Pleasant and Clarinda.
